The human right to safe drinking water
Paris has over 1200 drinking water fountains from the Boulevard Périphérique to its heart at the Île Saint-Louis... leaving no one thirsty.
Amongst them, you can find the historic Wallace Fountains where free, drinkable water is available from the sculptural cast-iron caryatids fountains... representing the qualities of kindness, simplicity, charity, sobriety. Conceived and sponsored by the Englishman philanthropist Sir Richard Wallace, they are scattered throughout Paris and recognised as one of the symbols of the city.
From a #KevinLynch perspective many of the water fountains are both landmarks and nodal, placed in converging in junctions, convergent paths, quiet squares or serving as the foci of neighborhoods.
